Joanne Ungar @joanneungar
It seems like I’m always bringing others with me to share Joanne Ungar’s work in person at her studio. It may be because the jewel toned elements in her encaustic artwork need to be experienced in person or that the wax smell that permeates the rooms and hallway is irresistable. The first visit was to interview her for an article that was published in Art Spiel. I brought photographer and videographer Daniel Paterna to help capture her work in the space. We spoke about living in analog and digital worlds, women’s beauty and finding your own art world. On this more recent visit I took with me someone who told me they wanted to see more after visiting her solo show at Front Room Gallery. It was a pleasure to revisit her active space and get a good dose of the intoxicating wax smell and a look at future work.
