I got lucky. The day I visited the Museum of Arts and Design it was on a Wednesday, the day resident artist Yoshiyuki Minami was on site to discuss his work as part of MAD’s Artist Studios program. We had an engaging conversation that encompassed a wide variety of topics as they related to how he approaches his work all while he worked on a one of a kind handwoven jacket using locally sourced materials.
As the Museum of Arts and Design puts it their Artist Studios program serves as an innovative model of interactivity and engagement that benefits local artists and Museum visitors through observation, making, and discussion of creative processes.
Each artist-in-resident works on site to make themselves available on a weekly basis to Musem visitors. It’s a unique opportunity that can lead to insight into an artist’s inspiration.
